About the TMA

The Tactile Media Alliance (TMA) was officially launched in February 2025 at the Workshop on Tactile and Embodied Learning, held at the Georgia Institute of Technology and organized by Dr. Abigale Stangl.

However, the conceptual foundations of TMA trace back to the Tactile Arts and Graphics Symposia (TAGS), hosted by the National Federation of the Blind in 2016 and 2017. These symposia, led by Ann Cunningham, Dr. Abigale Stangl, and Lou Ann Blake, convened over 60 participants—including educators, artists, and technologists—to address longstanding inequities in tactile access and literacy.

In 2023, following her appointment at Georgia Tech, Dr. Stangl founded MultiSense.Studio. With the support of HCR@Work/PhET, the Georgia Tech College of Design, and Ann Cunningham, she launched TMA as a collaborative hub for research, tool development, and shared practices in tactile media.
