About
Ann Cunningham is a pioneering tactile artist dedicated to making art accessible through touch. Her journey into tactile art began with a simple question: could a blind person understand an image through touch? This curiosity transformed her career, leading her to explore innovative ways of creating low-relief sculptures and textured art. Teaching at the Colorado Center for the Blind, Ann developed nonvisual techniques that empower blind individuals to engage with art, emphasizing hands-on learning. Her work spans from large-scale public sculptures to paper-based tactile books, all designed to enhance storytelling through texture. Through the Tactile Media Alliance, she continues to connect artists and educators, advancing the field of tactile art.
